Huttenbach Prize

Introduced in 2016, the Huttenbach prize is awarded annually for the best paper published in Nationalities Papers in the course of the previous year. The prize is named in honor of Henry R. Huttenbach, Professor of History at the City College of New York and a former editor-in-chief of the journal 1987-98.

The Joseph Rothschild Prize in Nationalism and Ethnic Studies

The Joseph Rothschild Prize in Nationalism and Ethnic Studies is awarded annually by ASN for an outstanding book published in the previous calendar year on Russia, Eastern Europe or Eurasia (including the Balkans, Central Europe, the Baltics, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey, Afghanistan, and China) in which substantial attention is paid to questions of ethnicity and/or nationalism.

Doctoral Student Awards

Every year a program committee selects 5 outstanding papers presented at the ASN by PhD students. Prizes are awarded in all major program sections (Caucasus/Russia, Central Europe, Eurasia, Nationalism/Migration, Turkey, Ukraine). Each prize carries with it an honorarium.
