Best Documentary Film Award 2016

"Oleg's Choice" receives the ASN 2016 Documentary Film Festival Award. "The Siege" and "All Things Ablaze" received an honorable mentioning.

The selection committee was impressed with the complexity of ethical, existential, and political issues "Oleg's Choice" raises. Set in the Donbas region of Eastern Ukraine, the film examines a story of Oleg, a battalion commander, and his friend Max, a private. Driven by the propaganda on Russian television, Oleg and Max believed they were fulfilling their patriotic duty. Told through their own words, their story is shattered on the night of June 3rd, 2015, when Oleg leads his men to their death. The battle leaves the battalion in pieces, each one of them facing the consequences of their choices.
