Original photos taken during fieldwork are judged based on their content, synthesis, and visually compelling insights about nationalism, ethnicity, or migration.

Each submission is accompanied by a brief description of how the photograph relates to the fieldwork of the applicant. The award-winning photos will be printed on the covers of Nationalities Papers during 2024.

The selection committee was comprised of Zeynep Bulutgil (UCL, UK), Mila Dragojević (Sewanee: The University of the South, US), Julie George (CUNY, US) and Annelle Sheline (Rice U, US).
