A Year of Resistance: How Students Challenged Serbia’s Authoritarian Turn

November 13, 2025

For over a year, hundreds of thousands of citizens across Serbia have participated in protests, blockades, and moments of silence to oppose corruption and authoritarian governance. This panel will reflect on the movement led by the largest student mobilization in decades, examining its origins, internal dynamics, and evolution. It will consider the government’s response and discuss the broader implications of these protests for Serbia and the region. In a time of a global rise of authoritarianism, the protest movement offers valuable insights into understanding democratic resistance.
