2022 Nationalities Papers Prize

Over the past two years, the pandemic has caused us to reflect inwardly as fieldwork sites became inaccessible and lockdowns made research difficult. However, photographs have helped us break free from our constraints, allowing us to reconnect with past experiences and plan for the future. We are excited to announce the winners of the Nationalities Papers Photography Prize in Nationalism and Ethnic Studies, which features original photos taken during fieldwork and judged based on their content, synthesis, and visually compelling insights about nationalism, ethnicity, or migration.

Each submission is accompanied by a brief description of how the photograph relates to the fieldwork of the applicant. The five winners of the 2022 Nationalities Papers Photography Prize are listed below, and their award-winning photos will be printed on the covers of Nationalities Papers during 2023.
