Cancellation of the 2020 Convention

March 10, 2020

Due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the ASN Board of Directors and the ASN 2020 Convention Organizing Committee make a decision to cancel the 25th Convention.

It is with great sadness that ASN is announcing the cancellation of its 2020 Convention, set to be held on May 7-9 at Columbia University. The intensification of measures by state and educational authorities in an effort to stem the spread of the coronavirus, which included yesterday the suspension of classes at Columbia University, made this decision inevitable. It has become virtually impossible to envisage a scenario under which travel and public gatherings will resume unimpeded in the United States in the next 2-3 weeks, after which the preparation time for the Convention becomes too short. The 25th Anniversary of our beloved Convention will have to wait until 2021.

All registration fees will be automatically reimbursed. The Convention can also issue official letters on stationary confirming the cancellation of its 2020 event. Please direct such requests to [email protected]. We hope that many of you will retain a membership for 2020, as this is linked to our flagship journal Nationalities Papers and is an important source of revenue for the association.

We wish to thank our international Program Committee for the exceptional work that they have invested in what would have been, by far, the largest number of panels in the history of the Convention. We are inviting you to reapply for the 2021 Convention – the dates will be confirmed soon – after our global community overcomes a very trying time.

Sincerely,

Zsuzsa Csergő, ASN President
Dominique Arel, ASN Convention Director
On behalf of the ASN Board of Directors and the ASN 2020 Convention Organizing Committee
